Sally Kuzniewski has written the most exciting science based fantasy story we’ve ever read. Using her experience as a micro-biologist Sally has created a world inside a world, where the bacteria she has worked with for years need her help to rescue them from some deadly opponents.

An exciting dip into the world of science fiction and a completely new way of viewing the world – from the bacteria’s point of view! I’ve never read anything like it – great fun and the mix of science with a good traditional thriller type plot makes it fresh and recognizable all at once.

Interesting, bold and new. I’ve never considered bacteria as fun or interesting. Great idea, interesting execution. Really good way of involving young and old alike in science.

Sally Kuzniewski holds a Ph.D. degree in Environmental Science and Public Policy from George Mason University. While teaching Biology and Biotechnology courses, she realized there was a need for public education in basic microbiology. This motivated her to write this novel based on her brewed imagination on microbial adventures. Sally Kuzniewski is also an author of several published papers. When not working, she enjoys hiking with her husband and dog.

huge well done to Keith Scrivener who
managed to secure a double page spread in his local newspaper, The East Anglian
Daily Times. We know this was the outcome of much hard work and persistence but
the results are already coming through. He tells us they wouldn’t look at this
until he’d published his follow-up novel. Over the last year Keith has also had
great success in securing book signings, even managing to crack the notoriously
difficult WH Smiths.

active in this area than this side of the pond. Well done.

You hope to find a good agent, you hope to find a traditional publisher, you hope to sell books and you hope to become the next **** (insert famous author of your choice).
Hope is important, I have hope with every submission that comes through, but hope is fragile.

I am not going to rant about how frustrating it is from a publisher's point of view when we receive yet another round robin email from an author who can't even be bothered to tell us the name of their book in the email and orders us to reply to them because they deserve it. Instead I want to make a brief journey into the world of the author.

It's a hard job being writer, you (or we in this case), slave for months or years on a book. We throw it out there to receive endless rejections from traditional publishers and agents. Then if we get a sniff, the up hill climb often means we are left in limbo for months and months only to receive pennies for our trouble when the book is finally published. No one advertises it, or helps with understanding the world of promotion, etc. There are a lot of myths around traditional publishing, about how it works and how wonderful it is, the holy grail for an author. More like an alchemists quest for fools gold, I reckon.

I've met commissioning agents from traditional publishers, as a writer, and I have never been so savaged or humiliated. In fact I vowed never to have a book published by people who treat authors so appallingly and their opinions were just that, opinions and we all know about opinions and certain parts of the human body!

So, here I am, as a commissioning agent for Mirador Publishing. A small and compact company which specialises in partnership publishing - poo poo, I hear you cry, but wait... Give me moment. I pay for and publish my own books under this scheme and damn me, we are good. We turn around your books quickly (and yes we read them), we offer a fast service and if an email isn't answered we aren't ignoring you we just didn't receive it or we are having thoughts about it further up the food chain. We are always there, we never leave you hanging and we offer good advice on artwork and everything else. If we make mistakes we try to solve them quickly. We offer great royalty rates and we work hard with our indie authors. I am proud to be a part of our team and that team includes our authors, many of whom I count as friends and colleagues.

We ensure your book is given a fair chance and if you work for your book, we will work for you. Partnership publishing is fairer, smoother, and for me the only way to publish. You just have to pick the right company, one you feel is friendly, capable and able to offer a fair deal. This is your small business, your book, so you want to make certain you pick the right business partner.

We want your dream to be a reality. It's a long term investment both financial and emotional for us, we don't believe in making life any harder than it has to be for you or ourselves. So don't throw mud at indie authors, partnership publishing or self publishing programmes, we are hard working companies who want to help people reach new goals in their lives. That isn't a bad thing because we give people hope and that's more than you get with a traditional publisher in my humble opinion....
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2701389665797447348.post-15840347128858207372012-01-24T03:15:00.000-08:002012-01-24T03:15:29.815-08:00A New DawnMirador News has been quiet for some time but a new dawn (cliché alert) has begun again and we will try to keep everyone updated here on a regular basis.
We are in the process of seeking more new authors and trying out some new Ninja Marketing ideas with our old hands (who are the brains behind this one not us). These experiments are going well, but they are all time consuming and long term strategies, which will work but need consistence and patience. One of these ideas is to help build communities of writers who aid each other with promotion days on kindle to boost Amazon rankings and interest from outside parties. It helps with sales and does force writers in building better networks and your network is the machine which will support your life as a writer.

Another pilot scheme we are using is much more complex and we haven't quite pinned down the detail yet but it is to help with book signings. Gaining a book signing is great but you need to sell books and that can be difficult for us introverted types who like to sit all day with a computer writing rather than talking. So, having prop which will help engage the public is vital. We are developing a system of scratch cards which give people a chance to win a free book, free ebook or short story by the author. Everyone loves scratch cards and something for free. It's important to be positive in this life - let's face it, life is hard enough without making people and yourself miserable. Be upbeat, be fair and chirpy, talk to people when you feel you can give them something positive to hang onto, if not keep quiet and release whatever is making you sad.

So, I am here in my official capacity as the company's cheerful blogger to tell you about how hard we've been working at Mirador. Get ready for this list, this month we have published, Punch Line, Uncomfortable Silence, Farin West and our very own Mirador Fantasmagoria.

A brief summation - A Punch Line is a wonderful biography of Mr Punch by I M Kidding, through the centuries. It describes his journey in his wonderful and unique voice, talking about those he meets along the way. It's a clever and witty satire.

Next - Uncomfortable Silence by O M James, a difficult story about the life of a man who found himself shaped by tragedy. He comes through it to find redemption in helping others survive similar horrors.

Then we have - Fairn West by Brad Dixon - A western in the old style. Farin is a man on a quest to avenge himself and his family. If you ever wanted to ride the wild west this book takes you as close as we can get to a gun slinging life of a cowboy.

Finally - Mirador's Fantasmagoria - The first anthology we have collected from our first short story competition. We are so proud of this and our winners. Thank you to all for your support and encouragement. This anthology covers sci fi, fantasy and horror. We'll be releasing other competitions later in the year.

Over the next few weeks we are releasing other books in our first tranche of writers for 2011. It promises to be a busy year. Come over to our website to have a visit. Here are the links to our books on Amazon.

Or am I mixing metaphors?

Regardless, we have yet another new book to tell you about - Reach Discontent by Hagler. We are proud of this book because Halger is bringing a new taste to our company. Reaching Discontent is a thriller at its heart but its environment, South Africa soon after apartheid has ended, gives it a unique voice raising it above the average thriller out there.

We have so many new writers coming on line over the next few months I don't know how we'll keep up! Can we make a day at least twenty six hours long? Or is there an EU directive against such things? (Now, now, let's leave the politics to our books and not our posts).

If you are interested in finding out about Reaching Discontent, head over to our website or Amazon, it really is wonderful thriller.Reaching Discontent - AmazonUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2701389665797447348.post-71266294009380458292010-12-22T04:43:00.000-08:002010-12-22T04:43:27.590-08:00Busy BusyWe at Mirador Publishing have been busy, busy, busy in the run up to the festive season.
